![]() ![]() Taking a page from the "Aliens" playbook, the sequel is as much a military action film as a horror movie. It also lacks nothing in savagery because Craven (who co-wrote and co-produced "Hills 2") and director Martin Weisz have new and different intentions. "The Hills Have Eyes 2" (UNRATED) is the sequel to the remake that's surprisingly intelligent and original. Buy it only if you liked part 1 and can get it $5.00 or lower. Better acting, story line and VISUAL ability would have made this movie a B+ instead of a C. I'm not saying be super graphic but come on, don't 'G' rate it either or 'black' it out. It's a tweak from Aliens part 2 and Wrong Turn (which BTW, goes out on DVD October 9th !) The female solders are a nice add and of course they are very attractive but the scenes in the mines are WAY too DARK and a disappointing let down cause you really cant see anything (especially when one of the mutants is supposedly having his way with one of the solders) You simply can't see anything. The cast of actors are one flash in the pan and a bunch of no names. Basically the sequel does not live up to the first. This is good for a $3.99 pay per view or eBay buy with $1.00 of pop corn and a $2.00 liter of soda. I would have been disappointed if I blew $11.00 on a ticket, and $10.00 more on soda and pop corn. For a brief moment, this film addresses the idea that war may be the worst kind of horror, even when it's judged against mutant cannibals. It's no coincidence that Craven changed this sequel's victims from a band of motorcyclists to a group of unlucky soldiers, giving the film political undertones. Written by genre master Wes Craven and his son Jonathan, THE HILLS HAVE EYES II is a sequel to the remake of Craven's original 1977 film. ![]() The inbred family of cannibals stalks the soldiers and picks them off, one by one, in gruesome fashion.Alejandre Aja (HIGH TENSION) directed the 2006 remake, but this sequel replaces Aja with Martin Weisz, whose first feature, ROHTENBERG, was banned in his native Germany. The unlucky soldiers happen upon the remains of their camp (and its denizens), and the horrors begin. The mutants from the first film (the unfortunate victims who live on nuclear testing ground) have returned to terrorize a group of Department of Defense researchers. After a group of hapless National Guard troops fails a training exercise, their commanding officer (Flex Alexander, SNAKES ON A PLANE) orders them to deliver supplies to some scientists in Yuma Flats, New Mexico. ![]()
